Welcome to my webpage! I'm a Senior Researcher at the Danish Institute of International Studies -DIIS, and I have an affiliation as a Researcher and lecturer at  Lund University. I am also an external teaching fellow at Copenhagen University's Centre of African Studies.

I hold an MA in Development Economics from Rhodes University (South Africa) and a PhD in Economics (focusing on Economic History) from Stellenbosch University (South Africa). You may access my PhD dissertation here, and my published research here.

My primary research centres on economic development challenges in the Global South, particularly in Africa. I examine various facets of development, including taxation, public debt, state formation, and consolidation. My approach combines elements of political economy, economic history, and economists´ methodologies to comprehensively understand long-term patterns and trajectories to inform future policy.

I currently concentrate on comparative fiscal systems, public debt management, and development finance, especially for sustainable development goals (SDGs) and addressing climate change. Additionally, I have a strong interest in informality, particularly in relation to issues concerning land access/ownership and taxation.
